14U Jr Jackets win the Championship at the South Cobb Invitational Tournament

In pool play the Jackets lost to the East Paulding Raiders 6 to 5 and defeated the Marietta Saints 7 to 6, advancing to the semifinals, to face an undefeated Pope Greyhounds team. In the semifinals Harrison Wade pitched a complete game for the Jackets. Outstanding pitching combined with the Jackets high octane offense proved too much for the Pope Greyhounds, succumbing to the Jackets 16-1.

The Jackets advanced to the championship game to face the eagerly waiting East Paulding Raiders. Led by Marshall Sturdivant pitching a complete game and a shutout, the Jackets offense, and defense were unstoppable in the championship game, defeating the East Paulding Raiders 18-0. This was a great team victory for the Jackets.

SHAW PARK DAY AT KSU, APRIL 22

Kennesaw State University will hold it’s annual Shaw Park Day at KSU as the Owls play Belmont on Sunday, April 22 @ 1 PM. Tickets for Shaw Park players wearing their uniforms will be admitted FREE and accompanying adults will be admitted for only $3 each at the gate. 2 Shaw Park teams will be selected to participate in the Anthem Buddies program where each player of the participating teams will stand with a KSU player during the National Anthem before the game. Let’s pack the stadium, Shaw Park! Make your plans NOW!

SHAW PARK OUTING AT TURNER FIELD APRIL 15, 1:30 PM, BRAVES VS MILWAUKEE BREWERS

The annual Shaw Park outing to Turner Field this year will be held on April 15 as the Braves take on the Milwaukee Brewers at 1:30 PM. Tickets are expected to priced at $8 each, same as last year. Everyone dressed in a Shaw Park uniform will be allowed onto the field for a parade around Turner Field before the game. To participate in the parade just line up with your team at the Hank Aaron Ramp no later than 12:15 pm. After the game, kids can run the bases and get a Braves t-shirt, always a popular event after all Sunday Braves home games. Watch for announcements on how to purchase your tickets for only $8 each.

Congratulations to the 11U Shaw Park Thunder for winning the Triple Crown Silver Bracket championship! The boys battled their way through the 0-2 pool play losing to the eventual Gold Bracket champion 643 Jags and taking the East Side Hurricanes to extra innings before dropping a close one 8 – 7. Undeterred the Thunder got back to business and focused winning all 3 games in bracket play. In the championship game the Thunder beat WPB Chargers 11-10 in a thrilling game that was highlighted by solid pitching and timely hitting in a total team effort. With the tournament victory the Thunder have earned a berth in the Triple Crown world series.

Coaches meeting will be from 2:30 to 3:00 at JCS, and the clinic will be from 3-5. You are welcome to bring your kids for the clinic. Stop by Cheeseburger Bobby’s on the way to the meeting for your free cheeseburger. Coordinators please pass this on to your coaches. See you all tomorrow.

The Pony and Colt leagues will be conducting skills evaluations this Saturday February 11th for the Spring season. Pony will begin @ 12pm and Colt will begin @ 2pm.

There will be a preseason, pre-evaluation workout tonight at the field with Colt @ 6pm and Pony @ 8pm. Come on out and shake the rust off!

Mandatory Managers and Coaches Meeting Sunday 2/19/12

There will be a mandatory coaches meeting on Sunday 2/19/12 at 1:30 pm at the parks main concession stand. This meeting is to discuss the spring season and will include the following topics: League Rules, Park Rules, Team Schedules, Rain out Procedures, Inclement Weather Policies, Field Maintenance, Use of Field Equipment, Uniforms & Required Equipment, Emergency Procedures & Equipment, End of Season Tournament, All Star Selection, together with a brief question and answer period.

Sign in sheets will be used. If you can not attend, please let your coordinator know.

Following the meeting please join us on the field with JCS Sports Training coaches and get great ideas for your kids!

Evaluations will be held Saturday from 12pm-2pm for Shetland, Pinto, Bronco. Pony and Colt tryouts will take place this day and an additional date TBD to allow for high school tryouts to be finalized.

Walk up registrations will be taken from 11am-1pm at Shaw Park on Saturday.

If we’re rained out on Saturday, we’ll reschedule for Sunday 1-3pm.

Shaw Park Baseball is holding an open registration for the spring season this Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the McDonald’s near Shaw Park at 3010 Canton Highway from 11am until 2:00pm.

All players who register on Saturday, January 21st will receive a complimentary Be Our Guest card good for a FREE Happy Meal.

We will have three walk up registration dates available.

• Kennesaw Sports Authority January 7th 10am – 2pm.
• Shaw Park on January 14th and 21st from 10am – 2pm.

Player evaluations are scheduled for Saturday February 4th from 12pm – 2pm at Shaw Park. New for 2012 will be pre-evaluation practice sessions available for all players to come out and get the rust off before the formal evaluations on February 4th.
